National Non-Profit in NYC: Building Organizational Capacity Through Manager and Team Effectiveness

Background

Nonprofit organizations are navigating significant change, including industry shifts, budget constraints, rising community needs, workforce transitions, and rapid technology evolution. Many are being challenged to do more with less while ensuring their talent has the skills, clarity, and support needed to succeed in a changing landscape.

Over the course of two years, a national education nonprofit has partnered with Reimagine Talent to strengthen two critical areas: manager development and team effectiveness.

Following a period of budget constraints and workforce reductions, the organization was focused on rebuilding organizational capacity while advancing plans for regional expansion. This next phase would require more from already lean teams, making strong management, effective collaboration, and disciplined execution increasingly important.

The organization sought to strengthen foundational management capabilities among mid- and senior-level leaders while equipping teams to work more effectively across functions, integrate new hires, adapt to evolving priorities, and sustain performance through continued growth and change.

“This has been such a great partnership. Our staff has found value in the sessions, and working with Chelsea and Mariah has been a joy.”

The Business Need

As part of the organization’s broader strategic plan, the leadership team partnered with Reimagine Talent to strengthen the people and team capabilities required to execute its mission effectively.

The organization identified a need to equip managers with core leadership competencies that would help reduce decision-making bottlenecks, strengthen communication and accountability, improve delegation, and support team morale. At the same time, leaders recognized an opportunity to establish clearer team norms and practices to improve collaboration across both functional and cross-functional teams.

The CEO and COO viewed investment in these areas as critical to building a more agile, aligned, and resilient organization, particularly as teams navigated increased demands with fewer resources. Strengthening manager capability and team effectiveness would not only support employees through immediate organizational changes but also build the infrastructure needed for sustainable performance and future growth.

Our Solution

Reimagine Talent partnered with the leadership team to identify core management competencies for mid- and senior-level managers, deliver targeted management training, provide leadership coaching, and administer team-based assessments through GlobeSmart to strengthen work-style awareness and cross-cultural effectiveness.

These experiences have helped the organization to:

Increase management effectiveness by strengthening delegation, decision-making, accountability, performance management, and coaching capabilities across mid- and senior-level leaders.

Improve team performance and execution by reducing collaboration barriers, clarifying ways of working, strengthening cross-functional coordination, and helping teams move priorities forward more efficiently.

Strengthen organizational performance through change by equipping leaders and teams to maintain focus, adapt quickly, deploy limited resources effectively, and deliver against strategic priorities during periods of workforce and organizational change.
