National Non-Profit Student Leadership Conference Accelerating Early Career Readiness Through Experiential Learning
Background
As employers continue to raise expectations for early talent, career readiness has become a business imperative. While many college students possess strong academic knowledge, employers continue to identify gaps in workplace-ready skills. According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), 93.9% of employers rate critical thinking as essential for new graduates, and 89.4% rate teamwork as essential, yet substantially fewer believe graduates are highly proficient in these competencies. National leadership experiences help bridge this gap by providing equitable access to experiential learning, employer engagement, and practical skill development that prepare students for workplace success.

Our Approach
Reimagine Talent designed and facilitated the conference's signature Business Simulation, an experiential learning challenge engaging more than 200 emerging leaders over two days.
Our design process included:
Ensure the case study elevated challenges employers have shared on today’s early talent segment.
Design the “unpacking” experience which existed to highlight key themes across the entire experience and best practices for early talent success.
Create a student resource toolkit to support integration in and out of the classroom.
Identify opportunities to embed employer partners and volunteer mentors into the programmatic experience.
Working in cross-functional teams, students were challenged to:
Analyze a real-world business case centered on identifying a business development opportunity for a national toy store
Develop and deliver a three-minute executive pitch
Respond to unexpected business "curve balls" requiring agility and strategic decision-making
Reflect on lessons learned through a facilitated debrief focused on workplace success
Throughout the experience, students strengthened essential professional skills including communication, collaboration, critical thinking, adaptability, decision-making, conflict resolution, and executive presence.
Our Results
Students left with greater confidence in their ability to navigate workplace challenges while applying leadership skills in a realistic business environment.
